40: Luke Christopher Fox

I had the pleasure of spending some time after work today with Jill and Chris (friends from work) and their newborn son, Luke. They asked for me to come over to take some photographs of their new family. Luke was a trooper, though not a fan of being in just his diaper. I took a lot of pictures and haven't had a chance to complete all of the edits but have picked out a few favorites. I am breaking from tradition and will be posting a picture from this photoshoot rather than from trivia. (We didn't place anyway...)

39: Birthday Cupcake

By the time this evening rolled around the only picture I had was of a co-worker wearing long-john pants underneath a pair of khaki shorts. Amusing, yes, but not Photo of the Day-worthy. Eddie suggested I take a picture of a cupcake he received for his birthday from a friend. The cupcake is quite colorful and makes a cute little photo.

38: Brotherhood Countdown

I have had the pleasure of watching the CNU Kappa Kappa Psi colonists grow as they have moved from their first interest meetings to their first degree to their first service projects. They will become brothers on Saturday and I couldn't be more excited for them. Tonight I went to the CNU Band Concert and the colonists had a reception after the concert. Jen (a clarinet player who took lessons from my Big Brother!) has been keeping a countdown to Saturday on her hand. I had her pose her hand by Charles' Membership Candidate Pin.

I'm very proud of all they have done and can't wait to call them my brothers on Saturday!

37: Birthday Scrabble

Happy Birthday to Eddie and Heather!

Heather is one of Eddie's friends from New Jersey who is in Richmond for law school. She is pretty darn cool and I like her for many reasons but especially because she enjoys Scrabble. Eddie, Heather and I get together periodically at a New York pizza place in Williamsburg to play Scrabble and that was the plan for tonight's birthday celebration. We pulled into the parking lot and it was surprisingly empty....because the place is closed on Mondays! So we met up at Pierce's BBQ instead. There we enjoyed some tasty BBQ, complimentary sample of corn on the cob and a game of Scrabble. We were all cursed with mediocre letters so our board wasn't as impressive as it normally might be.

My photograph of the day is of Heather playing her move in our game of Scrabble.

36: Sea Dogs Softball

I got to watch Eddie play two different softball games. I didn't take any pictures during his first game this afternoon (a combination of it being too hot and me being worried about him and one of his teammates that had a nasty collision early in the game). I took some photos during the night game. It was tricky lighting with the darkness being lit by stadium lights. I managed to get the settings just about right in time to get a decent shot of him running from second to third.

35: A robin feathering it's nest has very little time to rest...

Eddie and I are down at my parents' house for the day and night. We spent most of the afternoon and part of the evening out on the deck since it was such a gorgeous day. There is a robin couple that has built their nest in one of the fence walls. (There are three eggs in the nest.) My mom loves the robin family and since she is a reader of the blog I dedicate this post to her......and to Bea Arthur (R.I.P.)

34: Potty Humor

A few of us went to Hampton this evening to enjoy the nice weather and some quality time with friends. I was pleasantly surprised (and amused) when I saw this in the ladies room at Marker 21.

33: Ah, Trivia

It's Thursday, which means yet another Trivia photograph. This week we had the pleasure of having a couple seated next to us that was engaged in a fight for the ENTIRE TIME we were at trivia. What made it even more amusing for us was that it was the same couple that, two weeks ago, had engaged in some questionable behavior in the restroom. We moved a mirror so that Karen and Matt could watch them fighting without having to turn around and be obvious about it. I used the timer to take this picture from the ledge where the mirror was stationed. The fighting couple is located in the lefthand portion of the photo.

For those of you faithful readers keeping track, our trivia team was triumphant this week with a first place finish!

32: More food

This picture is from a place in City Center in Newport News that sells fancy gourmet food items, including cheese and meats. Knowing that I probably wouldn't have must else to take photos of today I took advantage and snapped a shot.

Day 31: Dinner

Eddie and I got a pizza from our favorite local pizza joint (Azzurri) to eat while we watched the Devils game. Since I hadn't taken other pictures and didn't think I would be inspired at all after the game I took a picture of the pizza. It was delicious.

Day 30!

I can't believe I've been doing this project for 30 days already. It's been really fun so far and I'm glad that I started it.

Tonight I had the pleasure of hanging out with the two kids of one of my coworkers. We spent some time watching Sesame Street (had to laugh at Sandra Oh starring as the Cookie Fairy), playing musical instruments and coloring. I realized I hadn't taken my photo of the day yet so I took some pictures when we were coloring. The photo of the day is of Noah and his coloring page. (I was really proud of my tiger and weiner dog drawing skills!)

28 & 29: What to choose...

It was a really good weekend for me (both personally and photo-wise). Choosing two pictures from the 417 that I took (holy cow!) was tough.

On Saturday, the CNU Photography Club (I'm their advisor) had their spring field trip to Maymont Park in Richmond. After we finished up there I drove up to Hollywood Cemetery to wander around. (I have always enjoyed cemeteries...a family favorite on trips. Weird, yes.) My Saturday photo is one of many amazing statues on the gravestones.I spent the night in Fredericksburg and got up VERY early to head into Washington DC to get a ticket to the White House Garden Tour. (I've got to say, traffic in DC at 6:30am is pretty awesome!) They began giving out tickets at 8:00am. I ended up getting a ticket to the first tour time (11:00am) and had some time to walk around some of the monuments before they got crowded. It was a fantastic way to start my day. I took a ton of pictures today and I like a good deal of them. I settled on this one, taken from the Lincoln Memorial.

27: CNU Orientation Leaders

I did a mini-photoshoot with the CNU Crew Leaders (Orientation Leaders) at the end of the work day. Most of the shots are posed and some are headshots. They wanted some "High School Musical"-esque jumping shots. The area where we could do that was kind of weirdly lit so I had to do quite a bit of edits. The quality was affected by that but I still was amused by the various faces they were making.

26: Trivia...big shocker there

Yes, it is again my Day of Jubilee which means that my photo of the day will be from Trivia Night. The Weekend Pub has a bar shuffleboard table (not sure the technical name) that I enjoy. I have an old photo of my grandmother (dad's side) playing the same kind of game so I always think of her when I see it. I took a picture quickly between rounds of trivia. I like how you can see the little grains of the wax sprinkled on the table.

(For those of you keeping track, we tied for third tonight. This means we had to duke it out in an intense round of Rock, Paper, Scissors. We didn't win, but still earned a half point towards our total for the year.)

25: Devils

Eddie is off watching the Devils play hockey this evening. I stayed home to work on a presentation I'm giving to the Photography Club on campus tomorrow. I realized that I hadn't taken any photographs yet today for the blog so I set up Eddie's Devils Russian dolls. I played with different set ups but ended up liking the most simple one the best.

24: A Tribute to Allergy Sufferers

On the walk home today I was stopped at the light waiting to cross the street and I noticed the wonderful pollen left around the edges of a large puddle. I wandered over and snapped a few shots with my pocket digital camera. I'm kind of pleased with the results as they remind me of a satellite photograph of coastal erosion or something along those lines.

23: Fortune Cookie

I didn't have my camera in my bag during the day, which turned out not to matter since I didn't see anything that inspired me. I set up a little "still life" with a fortune cookie left over from our chinese take-out from last night. I put it on a piece of scrapbooking paper and tried a few different angles and set ups. I'm not particularly pleased with the results but it'll do. I'm hoping to feel more inspired tomorrow.

Today's Photo: Busch Gardens!

Eddie and I celebrated Easter by heading to Busch Gardens for the afternoon. I love that the park is open because that means summer is right around the corner. I got a lot of good shots today, including some of a wolf who spent about ten minutes howling and begging for a treat from the staff member that was up talking with guests. However, I figured I should choose a photograph that features a rollercoaster, which says "Busch Gardens" more than a howling wolf!

Steaks on the Grill

I have been craving steak on a grill for about a week now (ever since I went for a walk in the neighborhood behind campus when it was nice out one day and people were cooking out). I went to my parent's house for Easter fun and Dad cooked steaks out on the grill. Delicious! I was pleased that my little pocket digital captured the flame as it did.
Today's picture of the day will come later.
Happy Easter!

Day 20: Riley

This is Riley, the niece of my friend and co-worker Kathleen. She was in town with her family to visit Kathleen at a campus program that was tonight. Riley is always ready to cheese for the camera, which is good for a person searching for that photo of the day!

Trivia Night: Photo #19

Well, this is becoming predictable....Thursday photo will be from Trivia! (In case you are keeping track, we came in second place tonight.)

The place where we go to Trivia has a new cider on tap that I tried tonight. Since I was the first to arrive to hold our table I had some time to kill with my little pocket digital camera. I didn't like the results of any of the pictures I took but this one more interesting after a little photoshopping. I like that the bubbles from the cider can be seen in the glass.

Azzurri

Tonight Katie, Eddie and I had dinner at Azzurri, which is our local (and favorite) pizza place. I wish I had had my "real" camera with me because the shot as we were leaving was nice...the owner and his wife at the counter, the neon light in the foreground...but alas, just my pocket digital. I played around very briefly in Photoshop with this one. I think I settled on "smudge stick" as the final texture.

Photo 17

I wasn't too inspired by anything during my regular day, which meant it was a "find something in the apartment" kind of day. I played around with the colors put off by a lamp on piano keys but after a few unsuccessful attempts I realized the lamp itself could be interesting.

Sweet 16

I finally got myself back to Employee Fitness Class today. (It felt really good.) I brought my camera to document. This was taken using the timer with the camera on my step (from step aerobics) pointed towards the mirror. We were all on the floor doing some leg exercises when this was taken.

Eddie's Debut

That's right, my husband is finally making his debut in my Project365. I went to one of his softball games today. It was a great day to be outside, especially watching a sporting event. Below is one of the photos I took of him during the game. Go SeaDogs!

Photo 14...Fort Monroe

It was a really nice day today so I took a "photo field trip" to Fort Monroe. I did a self-guided walking tour that I picked up at the Casemate Museum. (If you are interested in history, especially the Civil War, it is definitely worth a trip.) I really enjoyed just wandering around by myself. It was pretty empty there today despite the nice weather so I was able to take pictures without being disturbed and without having to worry about people getting in the shots. Below is a picture I took of a spiral staircase on the side of a white observation tower that was added to the fort during WWII. The metal stairs have rusted and the rust has stained the walls. I like this photograph because of the contrast of white and black along with the streak of rust.

Lucky 13

Tonight I went to a Project Runway/Recycled Fashion Show on campus. Two of Eddie's former RAs were involved: Sabina as a designer and Amy as a model. It was a really cool fashion show, which included getting to hear from Korto Momolu. She was the runner up of Season 5 of Project Runway. It was very interesting to hear her story.

Sabina's garment was made from a variety of clothes her church's thrift store donated to her because they were going to throw them away. The result was a very fun and colorful dress that Amy modeled beautifully. I picked this photograph of Amy, mid-pose in front of the judges.

Well done ladies!

Thursday Victory

So today's photograph isn't too artsy or special other than the fact that it documents our trivia team's First Place Victory! This is a photo of Karen and Terry with the $15 gift certificate we won for placing first. We actually tied for first and then Karen brought the victory home with an intense "Rock Paper Scissors" Match. Terry is making the "munch munch munch" face because the $15 gift certificate means we can order appetizers for the table next week at trivia. I love Thursday Nights.

April Fools!

I was reading an article online this morning about funny office pranks. One of them mentioned popping keys off of the computer keyboard and rearranging them. This was a prank that was listed as "perfect for the hunt and peck typer." One of my bosses (Vice President of Student Services) is very much one of these typers so I decided to go for it. I took my letter opener back to his office and rearranged his keyboard so that it had his first name (Maury) in the top row. He came back to his office and a little while later came out to my desk, looking amused. He mentioned that he had been trying to type an "r" but it kept coming out an "o". He then saw his name on his keyboard, which was something he had "never noticed before." It was pretty funny. I took a picture of the keyboard before I fixed it.
